At Benson Safaris, we deeply value community, connection, and giving back. One of our proudest partnerships is with the Lengo Football Academy, based in Arusha, Tanzania. Over the years, many of our safari clients especially families have visited Lengo, shared moments on the pitch with local kids, and supported the academy through donations of shoes and gear. These interactions are more than just fun: they help build hope, opportunity, and brighter futures for young Tanzanians.
Founded in 2012 by Emanuel Saakai in Arusha, the academy was created to use football as a tool for positive social change. Emanuel believed that disadvantaged youth — including street kids and orphans — deserve safe, structured environments where they can train, grow, and gain life skills.
Today, Lengo is more than just a football academy. It’s a community hub where children receive:
Education at the Heart
Through their School Kick Starter Program, Lengo helps many young players attend school. For a monthly contribution, sponsors can support a player’s school fees, food, and accommodation.
Additionally, the academy runs a family-support initiative, funding small projects like chicken coops to help players’ families become more self-sufficient.
Pathways to a Brighter Future
Lengo runs a 12-month employment program for older players (16–24 years), offering jobs in coaching, refereeing, and administration. They also collaborate with local companies, including tourism operators, to help youth find meaningful work.
Local Competitions and League Development
The academy organizes and supports a local football league in Arusha, working with schools and the Tanzanian Football Federation. This gives youth more opportunities to compete and grow in a structured environment.
