Mafia Island – Beach Break

Mafia Island – 5 Days Beach Break : Explore breathtaking coral reefs, sandbanks, lagoons and beaches of the Mafia archipelago as the Mafia Island Marine Park – Tanzania’s first marine park. Mafia has an area of 518 square kilometers. The main island alone measures 435 km². The island is a paradise for divers and snorkelers due to its protected location, many small islands and coral reef. Enjoy one of the world’s most beautiful dive sites: rich, colorful reefs with over 50 hard and soft corals and over 460 species of fish.

The island is accessible only by air and ferry. In addition, a motor-driven ferry operates daily from Nyamisati. Due to the limited transport connections to the mainland, the island is still relatively untouched. A journey with the irregularly running Dhow is an adventure, however, it is not recommendable due to the uncertain weather conditions as well as security. You can book additional day trips such as snorkeling or swapping as well as a Dhow boat sundowner tour during our 5 day beach break: It’s your choice!

Besides the well-known reef dwellers, whale sharks, sea turtles and humpback whales can be spotted in the ocean. On the small offshore island of Chole, flying foxes can be spotted, which are a rare occurrence. Another attraction are the ruins of the former city Kua, on the Mafia offshore island Juani.
