Kilimanjaro – Rongai Route

Kilimanjaro – Rongai Route 7 Days: Conquer the “most beautiful roof of Africa”, Kilimanjaro, the highest mountain of Africa on the Rongai Route. At almost 6000 meters, the impressive Kilimanjaro is not only the highest mountain in Africa but also one of the highest free-standing mountains in the world. The truly huge-looking massif consists of three merged, extinct volcanoes. The Rongai route allows a plenty of animal impressions (elephants, buffalo, monkeys, etc.) and is often referred to as the “Kenya route”. Over the first three days of the route, the Kenyan plateau north to Amboseli National Park can be marveled. The northwest side of Kibo is visible from almost the entire ascent route and makes it possible to take as many impressive photos as you would like to take home. Compared to other routes much less frequented. Previous mountaineering experience is not necessary, but trekking experience and sure-footedness on steep ascents and descents over scree, good constitution, a firm will and the right equipment are absolute prerequisites for summit success. This route offers less rain forest compared with our other routes.

The Rongai route can be done by experienced or non-experienced hikers and have two options either to hike in 5 days or up to 7 days. For those who choose a 5 days hike they can summit either through school hut or kibo hut as their base camp. For those hiker who are doing the Rongai route in 6 or 7 days they normally go to kikelelwa /mawenzi turn hut for the acclimatization and then they continue further more to kibo hut (base camp) for the night ascent.

Kilimanjaro offers a unique attraction for climbing. The ascent leads from the tropics to the glacier and six types of vegetation are passed through on the way. The richness of species in the rainforest and moorland zone is staggering. Contrast this with the barren landscape of the stony desert of the highlands. The accompanying view of the snow-capped peak and the dry plains of the vast surroundings will make the heart of any hiker beat and the happiness hormones of any nature lover rise.
